I was contacted by Brian Norman via facebook. No idea how he found me. Started chatting on messenger - seemed the "perfect" gentleman, a Christian, widower, no family, lived in Long Beach, Los Angeles. Talked all the right talk.
He told me he was going on a Church Mission to Ghana on 05/12/11 but would come to the UK to see me on 22/12/11. On arrival in Ghana his laptop broke (yes I stupidly sent him money for a new one!).
His credit card was not accepted & he had not taken cash. He was flying back to his home (Long Beach US) on 20/12/11 & then flying to me. Problems started then! E mail from a Doctor
stating Brian & his friend had been seriously injured in car crash on way to airport at Accra.
Brian on coma. Messengers back & forth, I was sick with worry as thought this was genuine. After 6 days of extreme worry I was asked for money for drugs as Brian needed an operation. Contacted US Embassy & Fraud Department Accra who confirmed this was probably a scam. Only had mobile phone no. for Doctor. Doctor unwilling to give me fixed line (landline) phone number or address of the Police allegedly involved in the accident.
Brian had booked into a local hotel near me, his credit card was dishonoured ( despite him telling me how wealthy he was) and he had given a US address that was 2,280 miles away from Los Angeles - obviously had no sense of geography - but then he wouldn't if he was from Ghana!. Feel lucky to have escaped but this nearly sent me into a nervous breakdown.
